Plane crashes into field in east London

Man taken to hospital after light aircraft comes down near aerodrome

A man is in hospital after a plane crash in east London.
The light aircraft came down near Aveley Road, Upminster, just after 1pm, the Metropolitan Police said.
A male passenger was taken to hospital for treatment and officers are awaiting an update on his condition, the force added in a statement.
Police, London Ambulance Service and Essex Fire Brigade all attended.
Aveley Road is close to Damyns Hall Aerodrome which hosts light aircraft, flying lessons, aerobatic experiences and helicopters, according to its website.
The aerodrome is largely surrounded by fields and woodland.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is now leading inquiries into the crash, the Met said.
An AAIB spokesman said: “We are aware of the accident. We will be deploying inspectors to the scene.”
